子供の頃から高雄型の重巡は好きであった。大きな艦橋が「かっこいい」と思ったのである。
しかし不思議なことに、プラモデルではなかなかいいキットに恵まれていなかった。ニチモの１／５００のキットも艦橋の形が良くない。
ＷＬも初期のものは、それなりの工作を要求されたので、まだ一隻しか完成していない。
そんな状況だったのが、ピットロードとアオシマから立て続けに新金型で発売された。
ピットロードのキットは、出来はいいのだが私にとっては、価格がネックとなっている。
アオシマのキットは、価格はリーズナブルなのだが、現用艦で見せてくれた、モールドのキレがない。組み立て説明書も不親切。
主砲の砲身をランナーから切り離すのが難しく、大半を破損してしまったので、真鍮パイプに全部置き換えてある。
この作品は２００３年３月２３日に完成。

I like this Takao class IJN Heavy Cruiser from child. I thought it was cool since she had the huge bridge.
But strangely there were no good plastic model kits long time. Even 1/500 scale of Nichimo kit has no good shape of the bridge.
I only one W.L model finished because early kits of the W.L needs  additional work..
Such situation has been changed after Pitload and Aoshima produced with new molds.
The kit of Pitload is excellent however a price is my bottleneck..
The kit of Aoshima is reasonable but it is not sharp mold compare to their modern JMSDF vessels kit. The assembly instruction also poor.
I broke most of main gun  barrel parts since it was difficult to remove from a sprue so it was replaced by brass tube.
This model finishet on 2003 Mar. 23th.
